Z allows design in 3D or in 2D, using numeric or interactive graphic input through either line or smooth shaded drawings ( OpenGL).It is available in English, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Greek, Korean and Japanese languages.įorm It can be used on Windows and Macintosh computers. It offers 2D/ 3D form manipulating and sculpting capabilities. Z is a general-purpose solid and surface modeling software.I am having the same problem with tree/plant collections and furniture collections from Evermotion ( all obj files).Form However the obj files from the link below do not (also xfog) Indeed the above linked xfog obj file does import with maps intact. ZWeb.thanks for your continued help in this matter. If you need further help, please try to be as specific as possible as to what you are doing and what is not working. If the trees from Xfrog are working for you, and the trees that you are exporting yourself are not, then most likely you need a different export setting from within Xfrog. (Clicking on "HERE," then XfrogPlants, and then on OBJ will give you this link. In our second post to this thread, we provide a link to the Xfrog site where you can download their sample files. importing an xfrog obj file into FZ with import textures. The textures reside in the same folder.įile imports without textures.I can texture then however. Of course if you do want to separate the joined objects, use the Separate Volume tool. You should not need to do ANY texture mapping. (similar problem with ivy generator).Maybe I should use 3ds files instead ?Īre you exporting the textured tree back to maxwell with the plugin or texturing in studio. They come in as one distinct object so I can not map the leaf canopy and trunk separately. I have no problems getting xfrog or evermotion obj files dorect into Maxwell. After that, I just sent it to render in Maxwell and worked fine. Also, I had to create a separate clipmap/ transparency map in Photoshop. I also had to run the object doctor to fix some errors in the objects. Make sure in the import options, as ADS specifies, to check "import textures". But I just imported the 3ds version of the tree into Form-Z. You just have to download the image from Xfrog You can buid Maxwell materials with these images. (This tree was downloaded from HERE in OBJ format.) If you want to render this with Maxwell (or if you are using formZ on OS X), Invert the image in an image editor, and don't check Invert in formZ: If you can spare the time to explain I would be very grateful.Īll you should need to do is to Import the OBJ file with Import Textures checked, then Edit the Surface Style for the Leaves, add the Transparency Map, and check Use Alpha and Invert. ![]() I would like to know the import settings, mapping technique and export settings. The reason for wanting to get the Xfrog obj files into FZ is to take advantage of instancing. I have given up after hours of futile time wasting so would really appreciate the tips.įYI it is very easy to import Xfrog trees as obj directly into maxwell. Anyway, I went a head and created a separate cilpmap for my transparency map and it worked fine.Ĭould you explain your process of getting that Xfrog tree into FZ then into Maxwell. The leaves that came with the model had a alpha channel that was, I guess reversed, so in the transparency map dialogue in Form-Z I hit the invert button. If you invert this in Photoshop, does this fix it? It looks like your Transparency Map image is backwards. You can see the transparency around the leaves is Tech Here is a rendering of what is happening. If someone could explain how to make this work. I attempted to recreate the leaf surface styles in the Maxwell material editor using the map style button. I have put the X-Frog model on the Form-Z FTP in a folder called X-frog Tree Model. Although, Auto Des Sys if you wish to respond, please do so. So, this is not necessarily a question for Auto Des Sys but for any user that may have time to help. I have been to the MaxwellZ forum and the activity there is scarce. I have been researching this and it appears, from what I read, Form-Z should translate all of the transparency maps properly.Īnyway, I am posting here because I am using the Maxwell demo as I am learning Maxwell. The clipmap renders black on some leaves and the image map for the leaves shows up on some of mesh and not on other meshes. But when I send it to Maxwell the leaves do not render properly. I am trying to use an X-Frog tree sample model. ![]()
